Public Workstations

A workstation is defined as a computer station and/or study seat (e.g., study carrels, seats at tables, etc.).

Intended Use

Workstations are intended for academic use. Computer workstations are intended for accessing the library catalogue, library databases, electronic reference materials and other tools supporting academic activities. Consideration and respect for others is expected regarding the display of materials on computer workstations, as per the statement on Internet use.

Prohibited Activities

  • Use of public workstations that violates University Computing and Networks Policy.
  • Tampering with or changing the workstation, components or default setup.

Unattended Workstations

Help ensure equitable access to public workstations. Priority is given to patrons who are present and using workstations for academic use. Consideration must be made for those waiting for a workstation. Parking (leaving your belongings unattended for the purposes of saving a space) and/or saving seats for others is not permitted. Patrons cannot leave a workstation vacant for extended periods of time. If the workstation remains unused for 30 minutes, staff may remove belongings. Belongings that have been removed can be retrieved from the Service Desk.
