PubMed is a Web-based retrieval system developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine. It is part of NCBI's vast retrieval system, known as Entrez. PubMed indexes over 4500 biomedical journals. Coverage is from 1966 to the present and is updated daily.

    Basic Searching
    • Enter your terms in the Query box.

    • Click the Go button to launch the search. (Boolean operators, AND, OR, NOT must be entered in uppercase)

Select Publication Dates, Article Types and Languages to refine your search.

    Examples:

    • drug delivery and nanoparticles and disease

    • Malaria or treat*

    Advanced Searching

Use the PubMed Advanced Search Builder.

    • Use the Builder  to view and select terms from the Index of searchable fields to develop search strategies. Limit search by Author, Journal or Title/Abstract.

    • MeSH Terms are the controlled vocabulary used to describe the subject of journal articles in PubMed or Medline. MeSH Major Topic restricts your search to articles where the topic is the focus of the article. NANS-related MeSH terms include:
      • Nanostructures (including nanowires, nanopores, etc.)
      • Nanotechnology (including nanomedicine)
      • Drug delivery systems (including drug carriers, nanocapsules, etc.)

    Examples:

    • cystic fibrosis[ti] and biomedical
(Finds articles containing the words cystic fibrosis in Title and biomedical).

    • Treffer R[au] AND 2011[DP]
(Finds articles by R Treffer in Author and 2011 in Publication Date).

    • Trends in Biotechnology[ta]
(Searches Trends in Biotechnology in the Journal Field).
