Latin American Studies

Latin American Studies is concerned with the multidisciplinary examination of Latin American language, literature, culture, and history.

Key Skills & Knowledge

Communication: Intercultural communication and cross cultural relationships; communicate clearly and persuasively in oral and written media; explaining ideas, writing and presenting information succinctly and clearly; public speaking; compiling carefully reasoned reports and essays; edit and proofread materials; comfort with phonetics.

Community Development: Sensitivity to advocacy and community building needs; incorporate understanding of past issues and events as well as contemporary issues to plan and anticipate future needs.

Analytical / Critical Thinking: Think logically, quickly and critically; understand economic development, power, and international relations; evaluate translations and original texts.

Interpersonal: Understand and interact effectively with diverse populations; cultural awareness and sensitivity; listening, clarifying and responding.

Organization: Organize and memorize detailed information; collect, compile and organize information; comfortable adjusting to new environments.

Qualitative and Quantitative Research: Monitoring and evaluation of processes and data; subject analysis and synthesis.
