Introduction to the Canadian Federal Government Publications Collection
The University of Calgary Library has a selection of Canadian federal government publications. These have been obtained in a number of different ways including:
- Depository Programs - participant in the federal Depository Services Program (DSP)
- Orders for Specific Items
- Individual items were ordered from publication catalogues, blurbs, announcements, etc
- Free Items
- Government departments, ministries and programs periodically did mass mailings of publications to libraries
With the increase in the availability of digital only publications, many of the above acquisition methods are no longer applicable as there has been a decrease in the availability of print publications in a physical format.
