A brief history of the Open Access Authors Fund

The Open Access Authors Fund was announced on June 23, 2008 (see the press release).  It was the 1st fund of its kind in Canada and the 6th in the world.  The Fund initially covered the 2008/2009 fiscal year and has continued, with some interruptions, to the present day.  For the first four years of the Fund's existence, the amount in the Fund was $100,000.  This was raised to $150,000 for 2012/2013, to $200,000 for 2013/2014, and to $250,000 for 2014/2015.  It was expanded again in 2016/17 to $700,00.

The Open Access Authors Fund is operated by Libraries and Cultural Resources (LCR) at the University of Calgary.
