Standards - "publications that establish
accepted practices, technical requirements and terminologies for
products, services and systems. Standards help to ensure better, safer
and more efficient methods and products, and are an essential element
of technology, innovation and trade.[1]

Standards available at U of C Library:
The University of Calgary Library holds the following current standards:
ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) - Located in the MacKimmie Library Reference Collection (TA401 .B66), the 70+ volume
Annual Book of ASTM Standards contains ASTM's 12,000+ standards. The first volume is both a subject index and alphanumeric index to the standards.
ACI Manual of Concrete Practice
- This 6-volume set from the American Concrete Institute is available
in the MacKimmie Library Reference Collection (TA680 .A512)
SAE Handbook
- Published by the Society of Automotive Engineers, the latest edition
is available in the MacKimmie Library Reference Collection (TL151 .S63)
IEEE Xplore - electronic access to current IEEE standards
Architectural standards - a number of guides to architectural/building standards are available in the Library.

The Library also holds miscellaneous individual standards that
have been acquired over time. To determine if the Library holds a
specific standard, search the
Library Catalogue
using, as keywords, the topic you are researching and the word
"standard", or the organization responsible for writing the standard
and the topic.
e.g. "reinforced concrete AND standard"
e.g. "Canadian Standards Association AND pipelines"
When you locate a standard in the library catalogue, note the date
of publication, as it may not be the most recently published standard.
Searching for Standards
Most standards are
not freely available online and must be ordered from the appropriate organization.

organizations around the world. Geographic and alphabetical indexes
available.
ISO Online Catalogue
- a complete listing of published international standards approved by
the International Organization for Standardization as well as standards
under development.
NSSN - a National Resource for Global Standards. Provides a central point to search for standards information from many sources.

searchable database of the world's largest collection of technical
