About the Image Catalogue

The Image Catalogue covers the histories of the fine arts and crafts of both Western and non-Western traditions. This extensive collection includes some of the most noted examples of painting, sculpture and architecture, accented by a representation of ceramics, photography, graphic design, and other aspects of visual culture.

Format coverage includes both 35mm slides and digital images. The digital images from this database can be used in ARTstor presentations which offer zooming as well as other special viewing features, as well as with other presentation tools such as PowerPoint. This database was created and is maintained in-house by Library staff. For more information, contact the Visual Resources Centre. It provides:

Indexing for selected 35mm Slides:
Text-only entries for ~10,000 of the ~250,000 slides in the VRC Slide Collection. The full 35mm slide holdings are available in the Visual Resources Centre.

Access to Digital Images:
Over 60,000 high-resolution digital images licensed for educational use by the University of Calgary community, including:

  • The Saskia Archive of ~28,000 digital images developed to support academic studies in art history however useful in many disciplines
  • The Archivision Digital Research Library Archive of ~28,000 architecture digital images. The Archivision collection focuses on the history of architecture and urban design, with additional images of sculpture, gardens, and architectural ornament such as frescoes, relief and mosaics. The collection offers views of some of the most recognized and celebrated architectural monuments in Europe and North America.
  • ~2100 Hartill Canadian architecture digital images
  • ~1088 images focusing on the Mayan culture in Mexico digitized from the larger Ehrentraut slide collection. For more information on the Ehrentraut collection, see About the Slide Collection.
