This guide describes how to find country and regional information using a variety of research tools.
Country Specific Databases
Information about individual countries or groups of countries may be found in online resources (databases).
The following is a selective list of the sources available at the University of Calgary Library.

- China Academic JournalsFull-text electronic versions of Chinese academic periodicals including: Literature/history/philosophy; Economics/politics/law; and Education/social science.
NB. No access to the Science, Agriculture, Medicine or Electronics sections. - China Trade, Politics and Culture 1793 - 1980Includes English-language sources relating to China and the West, 1793-1980 from the School of Oriental and African Studies and the British Museum. Contains images, diaries, journals, books. Provides a wide variety of original source material.
- Country Commerce (EIU)Reference guide to the specific operating conditions, commercial laws and business regulations of 60 countries worldwide.
- Country Profile (EIU)Outline a country's economic and political status and background. Provide annual perspective on the long-term political and social issues affecting each country, providing a complete introduction to all international markets.
- Country Reports (EIU)Analysis of political and economic trends in nearly 200 countries, showing how national, regional and global events will affect business in the short to medium term.
- Iraq 1914 - 1974 (Middle East Online: Series 2)Includes primary source material from the British Foreign Office, Colonial Office, War Office. Covers the period from the Anglo-Indian landing in Basra in 1914 through the British Mandate in Iraq of 1920-32 to the rise of Saddam Hussein in 1974. Contains major policy statements, working documents, minor documents and marginalia.
- OECD iLibraryIncludes publications from the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) on its member countries (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
- Political Risk Yearbook (Business Source Complete)Includes 100 country reports. Updated every year to include the latest report for each country.
- Russian National BibliographyIncludes over 2,000,000 Russian bibliographic citations from over 21,000 publishers in all disciplines. Search for citations from books, newspapers, journals, dissertation abstracts, musical scores, and maps.
Region Specific Databases
Sources that cover a specific geographic region may be used to find information about that region and the individual countries that make up the region.

- ABSEES (American Bibliography of Slavice and East European Studies)Journal articles, books, book chapters, book reviews, dissertations, and selected government publications on East-Central Europe and the former Soviet Union published in the United States and Canada.
- Africabib.orgConsists of two bibliographic databases covering Africana periodical literature (Africana Periodical Literature Bibliographic Database) and African Women's literature (African Women Bibliographic Database). You will also find a comprehensive bibliography on women travelers and explorers to Africa (Women Travelers, Explorers and Missionaries to Africa Bibliographic Database).
- African Studies Abstracts OnlineProvides a quarterly overview of journal articles and edited works on Africa in the field of the social sciences and the humanities available in the African Studies Centre Library, University of Leiden.
- Arab-israeli Relations, 1917-1970 (Middle East Online: Series1)Includes original source material from the British Foreign Office, Colonial Office, and War Office.
- Bibliography of Asian StudiesIncludes primarily western-language articles and book chapters on all parts of Asia.
- Index IslamicusIncludes information about the Middle East, main Muslim areas of Africa and Asia, plus Muslim minorities in other parts of the world. Includes information on articles, books, book chapters, book reviews and conference proceedings.
