ACWR303 - Academic Writing for Nursing
Writing Strategies
Now’s the time to begin writing your paper in earnest. At this point, don’t worry about wording, syntax, grammar, and spelling; your aim at this point is to develop a complete first draft. Leave editing concerns to later in the process. As you proceed, remember that research and writing are recursive processes: as you write, you may find that you need to find more information to adequately develop and support your arguments.
As you navigate the challenging process of writing a paper that presents a thoughtful and well developed response to your research question, you may find the following writing websites useful:
- Hamilton College Nesbitt-Johnston Writing Centre: See especially the section on The Writing Process, plus its embedded links.
- University of Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL): One of the first writing resource websites, this site contains a wealth of information.
- University of Calgary Writing Support: See the “Resources” section of this website for helpful handouts and links, including links to writing advice from University of Calgary departments. See especially the handout on revising a research paper.
