Education - Interdisciplinary Learning

Integrated curriculum and Science

"In the science classroom, an interdisciplinary curriculum may pair the cognitive processes of predicting, classifying, identifying cause and effect, sequencing, inference, and summarizing with similar processes presented int he context of language arts, social studies and mathematics.  Greene (1991) found that inthe science classroom, an interdisciplinary curriculum motivated learning and improved attitudes toward science.  Greene determined that the cognitive processes of science along with student-centered planning for learning created an environment in which students had a hgher completion, and a better conceptual understanding of the connections of science to other content areas." from Teaching Science for All Children by R. Martin...et al., 2005, p. 272.  (The reference to Greene, 1991 is to Science-Centered Curriculum in Elementary School, in EDThoughts: What We Know about Science Teaching and Learning, 2001.)
