GOVINFO: Canadian Federal Government Information

General guide for locating Canadian federal government information

Introduction

Government Authors

Having knowledge about the author, ie., the governmental author, of the publication is helpful in locating relevant information.

Government authors often undergo several name changes over time.  If one is searching for historical government information, it is important to have some knowledge of the name changes and when they occurred.

There are several resources that provide information on government authors - see Search Techniques.

Does the Publication Exist?

Determining whether or not a publication existed is helpful in locating it.  There are a number of resources that can be used to make this determination - see Finding Tools.
