LCR is part of the overall University of Calgary re-entry strategy. LAW Written and Oral Advocacy

This guide provides resources for law students in drafting persuasive legal documents and preparing for moot trials or oral advocacy exercises.

Purpose

The purpose provides resources that can assist law students develop their written and oral advocacy skills. 

Written Advocacy

Written advocacy requires the use of a persuasive writing style rather than an objective writing style used in legal memoranda or opinion letters.  Persuasively written legal documents are designed to persuade the reader, usually a judge, to agree with the position being put forward on behalf of the writer's client. 

Oral Advocacy

Oral advocacy involves all aspects of courtroom activities, whether at the trial court or appellate court levels.
