Overview of Spatial and Numeric Data Services
Spatial (GIS) data
SANDS collects and provides access to spatial (GIS) data files.
We purchase data licensed to the UofC, and there is a growing body of freely available open data.
We keep track of the many open data websites and portals, and we will search for files that we don't have in our collection.
Data files are available at our TFDL 4th floor location.
GIS software such as ArcGIS is necessary to use GIS files.
What is spatial data?
data that includes information about the locations and shapes of geographic features and the relationships between them
What is GIS?
A geographic information system (GIS) is a framework for gathering, managing, and analyzing spatial data.
