Overview of Spatial and Numeric Data Services

This guide was produced for the Law Faculty Lunch and Learn, May 16, 2018.

Spatial (GIS) data

Spatial (GIS) data

SANDS collects and provides access to spatial (GIS) data files.

We purchase data licensed to the UofC, and there is a growing body of freely available open data.

SANDS has a very good collection of City of Calgary data not available on their open data portal.  The Urban Alliance research program is a partnership between the City of Calgary and the UofC.

We keep track of the many open data websites and portals, and we will search for files that we don't have in our collection.

Data files are available at our TFDL 4th floor location.

Many files can be downloaded from our GIS webpage or from our remote access file server.

GIS software such as ArcGIS is necessary to use GIS files.

What is spatial data?
