Byron Harmon (1876 – 1942) was born near Tacoma, Washington, where he operated a portrait studio there for some time. He decided to settle in Banff in 1903 after seeing that the town lacked a portrait studio while travelling in the area.

This online collection represents the reference collection of native bees to Alberta. The physical collection is housed in the University of Calgary Biological Sciences Invertebrate Collection. The invertebrate collection consists of approximately 1.45 million insect specimens.
