Preprints are versions of manuscripts that are made publicly available prior to being peer reviewed. They can expedite the dissemination of research findings, but must be read with the understanding that the formal peer review process has not yet been completed. Preprints allow researchers to take credit for and publicize their research findings before the lengthy publication process is complete, as well as receive early feedback on their manuscripts.
