This Library service point provides Fine Arts and audio collections and services in support of teaching, learning and research for all University of Calgary programmes, including provision of audio listening facilities, and assistance in identifying and using Fine Arts and audio resources.

The Fine Arts & Audio Resources collection is comprised of a music sound recording collection of over 10,000 CDs, 40,000 LPs and 1,000 cassette tapes; 6,000 music parts; 1,000 spoken-word sound recordings; 13,800 Canadian Artist and Gallery Files; numerous Theatre and Playwright Files; and a small collection of items in other formats, e.g. slide sets, art CDs, videos, and portfolios of loose plates. Note that the main video and slide collections are located in the Visual Resources Centre.

The Fine Arts Reference Desk is the main service point for circulation of the staff-mediated Fine Arts and audio collections as well as for Fine Arts reference. In addition, we offer a mediated-search service to two art auction databases, Artprice.com and AskART.com, to individuals in Southern Alberta for personal or educational (non-commercial) use.

CIRCULATION OF STAFF-MEDIATED COLLECTIONS

  • Give accession number for music sound recordings, call number for music parts and other LC-classed items, or name of artist, gallery, playwright, or theatre group for art/theatre files to staff at Fine Arts Reference Desk to retrieve items for you
  • Sign out and return items to Fine Arts Reference Desk

Fine Arts Print Journals

  • Most non-circulating
  • Music periodicals: Current issues and backsets are housed on 9 LT
  • All others (art, architecture, dance, drama...): Current issues in BLT (Basement Library Tower) while backsets are shelved with circulating books by call number
