Creating Persistent URLs

Creating a Persistent URL to a Fulltext Article:

What is a persistent URL?
It's an intermediate page or location which redirects to the actual URL in its current location.

Why use a persistent URL?
Because Internet addresses are always changing; the persistent URL page is fixed and always redirects to the current article address.

There are 2 ways to create a persistent url:

  1. Fulltext databases (SportDiscus, ScienceDirect, etc) provide purls to articles
  2. Non fulltext databases (Physical Education Index, Medline, PubMed) do not provide purls - you will need to go the SFX page and use the Create a PURL option.  The URL generated is quite lengthy - to make it shorter use the Create a short purl utility (authentication required).
