Digital Sculpting for Art, Design and 3D Printing

This guide offers supplemental information offered in Freehand Digital Sculpting Workshop at DMC

Why Digital Sculpting?

It is a type of polygonal modeling of objects, based on representing or approximating their surfaces using polygons.

  • With digital sculpting tools and techniques, you can build and modify 3D virtual objects free of physical material

  • You can create scalable levels of detail by pushing and pulling on  the interconnected mesh topology

  • You can save, alter, morph and pose models

Where is it used?

  • Organic  creation of irregular surfaces and curves for CG, industrial design, art, and rapid prototyping such as 3D printing

  • High detail creation for photorealistic, hyperrealistic and stylized results vs. hard surface modeling
