Arrivals
Scholars will be greeted at the airport by UC staff volunteers who will provide a welcome package and assist with securing a cab
Please inform the cab driver that you will be paying with a Taxi Slip
Transportation information
Taxi chits and CTrain tickets are included in welcome package. Also included is a transportation summary

Vehicles can accommodate three passengers so please consider sharing cabs when possible
The C-Train
No transfers are required for travel to the University
A free-fare zone is available in the downtown core that runs along 7th Avenue spanning 14 city blocks between the following stations:
Eastern Boundary is the City Hall/Bow Valley College Station, and the Western Boundary is West-Kerby Station
Meals
Hotel provides daily breakfast, meals on your own will be covered by Per Diem and all other refreshment and meals will be provided

Friday, July 10
Lunch and dinner will be on your own and covered by Per diem.
Saturday July 11 - Day 1
AM/early PM Explore Calgary on your own (Lunch – Per diem)
3:00 pm – Calgary Stampede visit.
- Admission to the grounds provided and includes evening entertainment Chuck Wagon Races and Grandstand Show.

Meet LCR volunteers in the hotel lobby for travel to Stampede grounds on C-train
(transit tickets will be provided)

PM – Explore the grounds on your own; there are lots of food options available (Snacks and meals will be covered by Per diem)
6:45 pm – Meet to go to the Grandstand show together.
- Location: main entrance to the GMC Stadium by the ramp for disabled access – Staff available to assist you in finding your way.
7:15/30 pm – Evening show, concluding near midnight.
- Additional evening event staff volunteers: Christena McKillop, Student Learning and Engagement Librarian/ Acting AUL.
DRESS comfortably as temperatures can vary from very hot to cool and rainy. During the Stampede you will see lots of western dress – jeans, denim, cowboy boots, western wear, if you are so inclined dress the part. Otherwise dress comfortably with good footwear for walking. Sunhat and sunscreen are recommended.
Sunday July 12 - Day 2
Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Banff road trip.
7:30 am – Meet LCR volunteers in hotel lobby.

8:00 am – Bus departs for Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump.
- Snacks, drinks, and boxed lunches provided.
10:00 am – Tour of Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump and time to explore on your own.
12:30 pm – Boxed lunch – indoor cafeteria area or outdoor picnic tables.
1:00 pm – Travel to Banff Alberta.
- Excursion volunteers will assist with wayfinding.
4:00 – 7:30 pm – Explore Banff and dinner on your own (Dinner – Per Diem).
7:30 pm – Meet bus at drop zone to return to Calgary.
DRESS comfortably and temperatures can vary and the weather usually cooler in mountains. You will need good waking shoes/footwear and a sweater or light jacket. Sunhat and sunscreen are recommended.
Monday, July 13 – Day 3 (MAIN PROGRAM)
Libraries and Cultural Resources (LCR), located in the Taylor Family Digital Library (TFDL) 2500 University Drive NW, https://www.ucalgary.ca/about-ucalgary/our-campuses/campus-maps-and-room-finder opens a new window.
Take Checker/Yellow cab to campus 403-299-9999. Taxi drop zone – direct the driver to drop you at the South Bus Loop. Volunteers will meet visitors at the Loop. Please note, guests with restricted mobility may also request arrangements to ride with Mary-Jo.
DRESS – dress for comfort. It can be cool inside the buildings so a sweater is recommended. Good walking shoes also recommended.
AM Program locations- Various; From 9:30 – 4:00 pm - LabNEXT, TFDL 3rd Floor. Staff will be available to assist group with wayfinding.
8:30 am – Welcome program. Gather in TFDL lobby, main floor in front of the Nickle Galleries to Start the Day in a Good Way.
- Please note, it is important to arrive on time for the blessing at the fire pit.
9:00 am – Indigenous blessing with the Elders at the Fire Pit.
- Staff will assist with wayfinding. In case of inclement weather, an alternate location will be used.
9:30 am – Break – refreshments provided.
10:00 am – Orientation and library overview with LCR Senior Leadership Team.
- Strategic plan; Implement Consulting Report; Organization and Leadership including support for Indigenous and DEIA initiatives; Budgets and staffing including support for academic staff.

1:30 pm – Differences between the US and Canadian Research Library Environments, Lori Birrell, University Librarian, University of Saskatchewan.
2:30 pm – Meet & Greet, Dr. Sandra Davidson, Provost.
3:00 pm – Break – refreshments provided.
3:15 pm – LCR DEIA initiative, Claudette Cloutier, Jennifer Lee, Collections Assessment Librarian, and Sydney Chappus, Information Specialist.
Tours
4:00 pm – Tour Indigenous art collection with Kaia MacLeod, Indigenous Cataloguing Librarian.
4:30 pm – Tour TFDL with Claudette Cloutier.
5:00 pm – Transit to hotel – C-Train (Red Line).
- Staff will assist you to find the campus station. Instructions on how to validate train tickets are included your welcome package.

Tuesday, July 14 - Day 4 (MAIN PROGRAM)

8:30 am – Collections and Research Support Teams.
- Introductory/contextual remarks, Christie Hurrell, AUL, Collections, Content Services, and Research Support.
- LabNEXT and Makerspace tour, with Brianna Calomino, Digital Projects Librarian – Digital Scholarship and Jed Baker, Emerging Technology Specialist.
- Collections Diversity Audit, Kathryn Ruddock, Director, Digital Services, Lelland Reed, Director, Access Services, Kim Geraldi, Assistant Archivist (Glenbow).
10:30 am – Break – refreshments provided.
11:00 am – Academic Mentoring Lead Meetings.
- LCR Academic Success Program, Kim Clarke, Director of Staff Engagement, Acting Director of Learning Support.

12:15 pm – Lunch at Last Defence Lounge, MacEwan Student Centre (located across the Taylor Quad).
- Menu will be provided to collect guest orders in advance. The cost of this lunch will be covered by organizers.

3:45 – 4:30 pm – Student Experience and Teaching Support and Centre for Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, Literacy, and Integrity (CAIELI)
Taxi to return to hotel – cabs will be called for campus pick up – meet cabs at south bus loop.

Wednesday July 15 – Day 5 (MAIN PROGRAM)
Program location - High density Library (HDL). 1711 85 St NW, Calgary, AB T3R 1J3
8:00 am – Bus departs from hotel lobby for visit to HDL.
Please note - for the afternoon departure please bring luggage. For early evening departures, luggage can be stored at the hotel.
Visitors can arrange for taxi pickup from HDL – use Checker/Yellow (403)-299-9999. Please include postal code for correct direction T3R 1J3.
8:30 am – Facilities and Technology discussion and HDL tour - Claudette Cloutier.
9:45 am – Break, HDL Multipurpose Room.
10:00 am – LCR SLT debrief and final thoughts.
10:30 am – ARL Closing meeting.
12:30 pm – Lunch provided at HDL, Multipurpose Room.
1:30 pm – Bus departs and returns visitors to the hotel.
