Research Guides

Research guides are curated resources organized by subject, course, or general topic. If you are not sure which library resources to start with for your research, try using our Research Guides.

The research guide ‘Library Resources for Graduate Students’ opens a new window presents library resources, services, and programs that may be of interest to graduate students.

Literature Reviews: A Research Guide

A literature review is an integral part of your thesis. It helps you gain a deeper understanding of your topic and helps you identify gaps in the current research.

A literature review is a critical engagement with the literature, the goal of which is to provide context for your own research question, and to identify gaps, uncertainty or disagreements related to your topic.

Systematic Reviews

Systematic review is a methodology that prescribes explicit, reproducible, and transparent processes for collating the best available evidence in answer to specific questions. In particular, it requires the use of robust techniques for:

  • searching for and identifying primary studies,
  • selecting the studies to be included in the review,
  • extracting the data from the studies,
  • appraising the quality of these studies, and
  • synthesizing the findings narratively and/or through pooling suitable quantitative data in meta-analysis.
